Beginning Heraldry
Instructor: THL Llywus ap Alan

The basics of Heraldry of Arms within the SCA. Learn the different colors in heraldry; the names for field divisions and lines; some common rules; how to describe animal postures and how to “read” a device. Also a brief discussion of the submission process. 13 page handout—no fees or limit on class size.
Roman Cuisine
Instructor: Mistress Cailte

Come and learn the cuisine and food culture of the Romans! What foods were available; how they were used? How did eating and dining affect the political and business practices of the Empire? What did the outlying ares of the Empire bring to the table? Taste a few of the delicacies of the Roman (and our next Midwinter) table.

Woodworking--Wooden Spoons and Bowls
Instructor: Lord Druid
Day: Friday Time: 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
We will be hand carving wooden spoons and bowls using softer woods. There will be a focus on safety and some carving blocks will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own gouge and rasp. Some tools will be provided. It is recomended you bring a pair of gloves for hand protection.

The Making of Drinkable Cordials

Learn to make cordials for your own use. Discussion of materials and supplies. Some history, tips, sampling and recipes. Class limit: 12. No fees for handouts. Over 21 please.
Singing Class

Learn the words to “Erev Shel Shoshanim”, a Hebrew song. Students
are encouraged to stay for next class to join in ensemble with musicians.
Ensemble class

All instruments welcome. Musicians will learn the music to “Erev Shel Shoshamim” and accompany singers from previous class in ensemble.
Open Spinning and Weaving Workshop

This class features: An overview of Rome and Byzantium; Brief history of the construction and use of Metal Threads; Hands on pracice with Metal Thread; Using Metal Thread to attach a Cabason.

The Making of Watercolor Paints

Learn to make watercolor paints. Discussion of materials and supplies needed to make Gum Arabic based paints; the safety concerns of working with pigments and sources of supplies while making a batch of paint.
No class limits of fees.
Using Modern Patterns for Medieval Styles

This class looks at patterns currently published from Simplicity, Butterick and McCalls and discusses the "periodness" of each. Great for the beginning seamstress who is used to using commercially published patterns.

This will be Part 1 of a series on Costume and Accessories. Examples, discussion, pattern making for early period clothing. Handouts. Get an early start on Midwinter garb. Three other classes in the series(Byzantine, Gallic/Germanic, British) will be taught at upcoming events.
Naalbinding Wool Fingerless Mitts
